Back to School Supply List
One week remains before the start of the semester. Whether you’ve already recorded your first three weeks
of video lectures or are just sitting down to construct your syllabus, chances are you still need a few things. OneKU offers this Back-to-School Supply List of campus and community resources that we hope will make the transition to the fall a bit easier.

Best Masks for Teaching. In need of a mask refresh? Leave it to Wirecutter to extensively research the best-fitting and most effective cloth masks available. Here’s a list of their nine favorites, plus thorough explanations of why others didn’t make the cut. Canvas Tutorials. As if you didn’t have enough on your plate, you’ve now got to learn Canvas. If you’ve found the officially provided tutorials devilishly unhelpful, check out these step-by-step video tutorials or blog posts, both broken down by topic, to help you navigate from Blackboard to Canvas.

The website, GoGetTested, offers a complete list of coronavirus testing locations in Kansas.

Anyone who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and does not have a primary care provider can call Douglas County Public Health, 785-843-3060.
Faculty Health Clinic. Did you know Watkins has a designated clinic for faculty and staff? With its own separate entrance? The Immediate Care Clinic treats acute conditions: bone or joint pain, gastrointestinal upset, respiratory problems, the common cold, etc. (8:30am-5pm, Mon-Fri; 785-864-9565)
KU Ombuds Office. An often overlooked resource, the Ombuds Office is a confidential, impartial, and independent office. The Ombuds advises on fair process and rights and responsibilities, and works to ensure that faculty, students, and staff receive just and equitable treatment within the university system. Lux Pens, Pencils, and Stationery. Treat yourself to grownup school supplies from Wonderfair! Owners Paul and Meredith stand in solidarity with OneKU in advocating for safe workspaces and fair compensation and have just made a commitment to raise their minimum starting wage to $15/hr. To celebrate, Wonderfair is offering a 15% discount to anyone who shows this email or mentions “OneKU” at checkout. Offer good from now until September 16. Student Health and Wellness. Because we’re often asked to do more than teach our students.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Urgent mental health care and therapy for students. Walk-ins accepted. $15/session. (8am-5pm, Mon-Fri; 785-864-2277)
Campus Cupboard Food pantry open to all KU students, faculty, and staff. No limits on produce! Located on the 4th floor of the Union. (campuscupboard@ku.edu; 785-864-4060)
ECM Veggie Lunch Free/low cost veggie or vegan lunch served every Thursday that school is in session at the Ecumenical Campus Ministries building. Free Wheatfields bread to take home. (11:30am-1pm, Thursday)
Student Support and Case Management Holistic, strengths-based assistance to students who are struggling with food or housing insecurity, mental health issues, returning to campus after a long absence, and other difficult life circumstances. Faculty can submit a care referral on behalf of a student. (studentsupport@ku.edu; 785-864-4060).
“Hot Summer.” Not ready to give up on bbqs or lounging by the pool? Bop along to the newest release from Prince. While the rest of the posthumous album, Welcome 2 America, is uncharacteristically political (and prescient!), “Hot Summer” is pure joy.
